An year, and beyond ...

Today morning there was a mail in my mailbox informing me of a new comment on my blog. This was from Bendtherulz, who reminded me that I have completed one year of blogging. He asked me how was I feeling having completed a whole year in the blog-world. I thought about it for a few minutes, and then these thoughts evolved into this post.

I first heard about the concept of the blog from my brother, who is very tech-savvy. Btw, he maintains a highly technical blog, on which he posts occasionally. I jumped up at the idea, and created my blog too. However, for a long time, I suffered from an inertia, and did not
post anything. I could not think of anything to put up.

Then, one fine day, I got enthused once again, and made my first post. For first few months, I showed little activity. The low activity level was not helped by the fact that amongst my acquaintances, hardly anyone wrote or visited blogs, and I myself did not have an idea how to find blogs that will interest me. For quite a while, my blog remained primarily a reading journal. Gradually, I gained momentum, I found a few regular visitors on my blogs, and in turn, I became a regular at theirs. I kept, and keep, finding more blogs of my interest through those - and the chain grows. But my network is still extremely small.

However, in the process, I have discovered a whole new world out here, learnt new things, made a few friends. In the times to come, I hope to learn much more about things, ideas, people, cultures. I hope to get to know these friends better, and find more like-minded people.

Sometimes I debate with myself, the primary purpose of a blog. Is it the record of an individual's thoughts and feelings, like a virtual diary - not necessarily meant to be shared ? Or is it the expression of one's ideas, open to discussion with willing audience ? When I am inclined towards the first one, I feel good about having written some coherent accounts; when I am inclined towards the second, I am frustrated at not being able to express in words so many thoughts.
The bottom line is that I am enjoying myself immensely in the blogosphere. And that is the answer to your question, Bendtherulz.

First of all, HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!!
I'm sure there's a set of wings attached to father time, LOL!!
Sigma, you express yourself beautifully (I'm the one feeling frustrated many times) not going more into detail on my blog! Haha.
It is such an inspiration when we make the effort to write a story and we get a comment or two. I will be reading and visiting your blog as usual - just don't stop blogging, LOL!!! :-))

Happy Birthday !!!! May your blog lives 1000 years and each year has 1000 posts. )))
Tum jiyo hazaron saal, saal ke din ho pachaas hazaar.

Where's Bendtherulz's comment? I couldn't see it.

Well, I agree with you. Initially, I also thought nobody is going to visit my blog.. it was purely for me & my thoughts but people came, most of them accidently I guess, they liked my blog and became regular.
Now my blog is now nearly 4 months old & I am glad to have so many blogfriends.

Sigma, I read all your posts on both the blogs.. more than once but don't comment many times. Think of them as my invisible comments. ;) I appreciate your simplicity very much.

Once again, Congrats!!!

Ginco, thanks a lot. I agree, the time flies like anything :-)

Cuckoo, thanks to you too. 1000 posts a year ?! now that has to be a BIG fantasy :-) I didnt even manage 50 in my first year :-) Bendtherulz left a comment on "my first post". Initially, I too thought that noone is going to visit my blog. But I have a few people coming over here quite regularly now, and as Ginco says, it is quite encouraging to get a little feedback.

East of Oregon, thanks to you too. Yes, it sure is fun. This is the first time I am writing something which I share with people, and people even read it :-))

@ Pyare Mohan : Thanks for your support :-) I am sure it is going to give me a lot of encouragement, going forward.

@ Deepti : Thanks. I enjoy reading your poetry - you write very well. But well, if the intention is to write something and leave it open to discussion, then it not less like a diary, which I think is intended for your own self.

@ BendTheRulz: I found the fact that you left the comment on my first ever post, interesting. It was indeed a pleasant surprise. Sorry, I did not get what you meant by leaving different perspective of your identity on people. But about interpretations - thats interesting - these days we have a discussion thread going on a group interested in poetry, where people have shared their interpretations of a 'sher' (couplet) by Ghalib - and they are all entirely different!! But we are never going to know what Ghalib actually meant! Think I am going to post that next :-)

@ Maverick: Thanks for dropping by. And thanks for blogrolling me. I have been visiting your blog regularly for some time now, and I really like it.

@ Adi: Haardik dhanyawaad ! Ji haan, ham bilkul samajh rahe hain jo aapne kaha! My PR skills ?? Hehe, thats the first time I have heard anything of them - I thought they were non-existent :-) But hope your wishes do wonder with them, and they make an appearance :-D

So you like urdu poetry...!
That should be interesting - look forward to "Interpretations on Ghalib"-
* did you hear that Zhohra Sehgal recited urdu poetry on saturday ( Not Ghalib - but Faiz/ Ali Sardar Zafri/Kaifi Azmi & Jawed Saheb....)

Sigma said...

Oh yes, I do ! I mentioned in my profile that I love poetry - that is mostlt hindi and urdu poetry. I must confess that though I do like some of Ghalib's poetry, most of it is beyond my comprehension due to my limited urdu vocab.
Ya, I read about this recital by Zohra Sehgal. Didn't get to attend it though, and all my favorite poets too! Did you attend it ?

watch out for this space...will send info on any of poetry recitals happening...!
Even my urdu is just ok...but that doesn't deter me to enjoy these sessions. I love sufi music as well...you can catch me most of the Thursdays (in summer) at Dargah if nothing is happening on the circuit.

Zohra Sehgal's session was just too good...but then it always hits a chord...she is one indomitable spirit.
Will be writing a post on that session and will be putting up one of her fav poem. would love to get your feelings on same....!
